KEY COMPETENCIES

Here are some things I tend to excel at...
Web SVG

WEB DEVELOPMENT

I am proficient in HTML, CSS, & Javascript. I have also dabbled in databases & API development along with application development. On the analytics/tracking side, I regularly employ Tag Manager and GA4 for tracking and analysis.

UX Development

This has been a primary focus of mine in recent years. I tend to excel in this space because I find the process of refining a product based on empirical user engagement so interesting. I spend a lot of time in XD (Adobe) and watch A LOT of NNG videos.

Product Management

Acting as the Director of Web Development for Houston First Corporation over the last 10 years, I have overseen the development of A LOT products ranging from websites & applications to databases & API integrations.

Web Developer and UX Professional looking for opportunities within the world of user experience.

About Me

Who am I?:
At core…a "troubleshooter." The highlight of my day is in identifying a solution (or set of solutions) to a problem. The technology I use is just a means of fulfilling that drive but in the end, I just get a kick out of “bettering” things. As it turns out, one of the best places to do that is in Web and UX development because of all of the tools available to developers when designing, building, and analyzing their web properties. The web is where many people do their shopping, trip planning, social networking, conduct their business, and share their lives with their friends and family. Being a part of enriching those experiences is fulfilling for me.

What do I want to do?:
I want to continue to build and iterate digital products; ideally, as a UX Architect/Researcher or Product Owner.

Where am I?: I am in Houston, Texas but I am open to remote/semi-remote positions in certain places where I am interested in building my retirement cabin (e.g. Tennessee, Montana, Colorado, Utah). I'm looking forward to walking 30 steps off my porch in order to catch lunch in a nearby stream...

My approach to Web Development: I believe in developing the simplest solution possible at the outset and then building up in complexity as I gain a better understanding of the needs of my userbase in my efforts to drive them down some desired conversion funnel. Bells and whistles are great but aesthetics don’t drive conversions, utility does; value does.

My approach to UX: As with most things, I approach user experience design and development by identifying the problem I am trying to solve and working my way backward from there. I strongly believe in an iterative approach where one makes small adjustments based on actual user interactions; this way I am always sure my design decisions are anchored to what the user actually needs rather than what I’m predisposed to believe about their needs. I’ve distilled my process down to the following:

Orient. Design. Build. Test. Repeat.

Orient myself to the problem I am trying to solveDesign a solution.Build that solution with minimal complexity.Test the solution with a small sample of my audience or using a look-a-like audience.Repeat as I gather data on the efficacy of the solution.
